Stronger Communities Start with Us

Laying the Foundation for Future Generations in Partnership with Habitat for Humanity

Building Stronger Communities Together

At Thompson Machinery, we make it a mission to aid in building stronger communities. Whether working with local businesses as they create the cornerstones of their neighborhoods or partnering with organizations that are working towards the same goal, we try to keep the people who make up our communities at the forefronts of our minds as we set a strong foundation for future generations.

Habitat for Humanity, who we have partnered with for the past 12 years, works hard every day to alleviate hardships for families and make a difference in their communities. Nearly 1 in 6 children in the United States experience housing instability every year, and Habitat has been able to help create a solution for those in need. Since their founding in 1976, they have helped more than 62 million people build their homes and pave the way to stable and successful futures.

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, we at Thompson Machinery have been honored to volunteer and support the building of over fifteen homes in the past several years, giving local families the opportunity to gain stability in their finances, housing and quality of life.

Fall 2025

Thompson Machinery was recently able to support a full Habitat for Humanity build from beginning to end in the heart of Nashville, TN. With team members volunteering throughout each stage of the build, we got to see this project all the way through under the expert guidance of former teammate and Supervisor On-Site Steve Lainhart.

Lainhart, who retired from Thompson in 2024, worked at the company for 37 years. He began his volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity in that time and has since helped build over 800 homes. In 2012 he was named the Habitat Volunteer of the Year, and in 2025 he was given the Outstanding Construction Co-Volunteer of the Year Award as well as the State Impact Award. His dedication to both Thompson Machinery and his volunteer work led to our sponsorship of this year’s fall build.

Getting Involved

We at Thompson Machinery have supported home builds throughout our territory across Middle Tennessee, West Tennessee and North Mississippi, but the work doesn’t end there. Habitat for Humanity offers opportunities within all 50 of the United States as well as throughout over 60 countries.

With Habitat for Humanity, you have the opportunity to build in your community as well as in communities around the world. With 48 locations in Tennessee and Mississippi alone, there are countless opportunities to get involved and support the building of stronger and healthier communities wherever we are.
